Tallinn Estonia

Tallinn is an old medieval walled town in Estonia.  Estonia is a small country that throughout history been conquered and occupied by all the countries around it, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Russia.

The city was very beautiful, much more than we expected. It is built on land that slopes down to the Baltic Sea. The oldest, wall portion of the town is built at the top. From the Upper Town,  as they have named it, you can see out over the Lower Town and the harbor.

We had a great guide, he told entertaining stories of how bad Estonia has had it through the years.

This is St. Nicholas Church in lower Old Town. We were entertained by a string quartet playing inside the church.

One of the marvels and tourist attractions of the church is the famous "Dance of Death" painting.

Street musicians could be found all along the many narrow streets we traversed.  I am not sure what this instrument is that he is playing but it looked cool.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was a good example of a traditional Russian Orthodox church.
